Two separate research projects resulted in my coincidental examination of the Canadian Expeditionary Force at Bois-Grenier in March 1915, recorded historically as part of the British Battle at Neuve Chapelle. Most Canadian's are probably aware of the reported Canadian "Baptism of Fire" occurring during the gas attacks in the 2nd Battle of Ypres, Belgium in April 1915. Many may not be aware of the prior entry of the 1st Canadian Division into the British trenches at Bois-Grenier the prior month, thus suggesting that was the CEF's "Baptism of Fire". During March of 1915 there were 92 Canadian deaths in France as compared to 42 in Belgium. Very little is reported in the historical accounts of the Canadian action at the "Forgotten Battle" at Bois-Grenier, France.
